WA Rural Powerbuilders Cohort #1
Together for 5 years
This Cohort lasts up to five years so relationships can strengthen, processes can develop, and internal structures can be built. Together, Nuestra Casa, Rural People’s Platform, and We Are Comunidad meet quarterly to present grant proposals to each other, vote on new grants, share progress updates, and seek advice on new challenges as they build capacity and grow.
Through education, advocacy, and mutual support, Nuestra Casa empowers immigrants in the Lower Yakima Valley to create positive changes, enriching themselves, their families, and their communities.
Founded 2004
Rural People’s Platform organizes community members across rural North Central Washington around local initiatives and a long-term agenda that makes economic stability possible and sustainable for all working people and families.
Founded 2020
Based in rural Vashon Island, We Are Comunidad centers the leadership and well-being of the island’s Latine and immigrant communities by providing mutual aid, advocacy, and cultural programs that build community power and belonging.

Capacity Building Projects Overview
An effective nonprofit is more than its programs. This rural cohort has access to up to $3.2 million through collectively approved capacity-building grants. Every Cohort Member faces unique challenges and opportunities for their organization; that’s why they determine how to leverage Magic Cabinet funds.
We are excited to announce the launch of our first cohorts of rural powerbuilding organizations, expanding our grantmaking to include organizations that are building rural community power and poised for outsized impact.
As we prepare to launch our next Magic Cabinet cohorts, we're leveling up our model and setting a new standard for how we enter and engage with communities.
Native Voices Rising has launched their 2025 Grantmaking Cycle, which will provide general operating support to strengthen Native-led groups that have a membership base in the community, work to develop leadership, and take collective action to win progressive social change.
